Animal identification using transponders is just as important for zoos . On the one hand, it is a matter of unmistakable identification if external features are not sufficient, and on the other hand, compliance with legal requirements for cross-border transport in connection with species protection agreements (CITES). There are many species, such as the hyacinth macaw, various snakes, fish, etc., where it is very difficult to distinguish individual animals from one another by external characteristics. RFID technology is the method of choice here. The animals are not disfigured by marks, tattoos or brands. The small transponder, the size of a grain of rice, provides an unforgeable, globally unique identification for each individual animal.
For example, our technology is used in the Masoala Hall at Zurich Zoo.
