The small transponder consists of a medically safe bioglass capsule containing a microchip. The chip is passive and contains no energy source. The transponder is activated by the reader and sends its globally unique identification number back to the reader, where it is displayed on an LCD screen. If a registered animal goes missing, an entry is made in the missing persons list after notification of the loss.
